Today is the Autumnal Equinox and despite the warm weather we say goodbye to summer.  Stacking away the blues and crisp whites and sorting through the piles for softer shades, some muted tones and things that reflect the golden hues of fallen leaves and warm afternoon light spiked with hints of crimson and russet and maybe a bit of pumpkin spice.

Our Foundation prints in the golden tones of the season are joined this year by Patera in the dusky tones of evening.

Autumn is my favorite time of year.  I love the mystery of the darkening evenings, the coziness of a warm wools and sight of leaves swirling in the wake of a passing breeze.  I am intrigued by the added textures of clothing and home, the new scents of apples and savory delights coming from inspired kitchens.  I love the preparations for the holidays;  who will come for Thanksgiving, should I use my grandmother’s china, what new vegetable dish can I try out this year, will he enjoy unwrapping this on a cold December morning, can I make my own pumpkin spice latté (yes) ?   But most of all I love the low golden afternoon light that seems to pour like syrup, turning everything in it’s path into a precious object.  The Golden Hour is particularly precious as the colors fade to sepia in preparation for a stark black and white landscape.

Enjoy the golden moments of this autumn, seek your den for the coming winter and fill it with warmth and joy.

Happy Equinox
